Four persons who have been arrested by the Northern regional police command after trying to free their suspect friend from police custody have been slapped with 4 hefty charges of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, obstruction and causing damage.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohammed Yussif Tanko said the suspects were arraigned before court yesterday, Wednesday, November 7, 2018 and have been remanded into police custody.

According to him, the suspects went to the police station armed, and engaged the police in a brawl leading to the destruction of some properties including chairs belonging to the police.

He explained that most of the suspects fled, while the 4 were arrested upon a hot chase by the police.

‘’The main suspect who they attempted freeing went and destroyed somebody’s building materials at his construction site and was arrested and placed in custody and was due to appear in court when the incident happened. So our men gave them a spirited fight and overpowered them even though several of them absconded in the heat of the brawl.’’ he said.

DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko said the contractor has become the principal witness in the case and is available to testify against the accused person who caused damage to his building materials at the construction site.
