New voters register for election 2020: NDC is being haunted by shadows of the past-PK Sarpong

Ruling New Patriotic Party strong man, PK Sarpong says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is suffering from delusions grandeur for kicking against the decision by the Electoral Commission to compile a new voters register for the 2020 elections.

He is accusing the NDC of assuming a self-aggrandizing posture and behaving as though nothing can be done in the country without their consent or inputs.

‘’For some reasons best known to them, they seem to think that nothing gets done without their consent, and that as long as they do not embrace a proposal tabled by the Electoral Commission at IPAC meetings, it must be dwarfed to the background’’ he wrote.

He continued that ‘’you attend a meeting, an idea is promulgated, none around the table raised any objections to the propounded idea, you come out of the meeting to weep profusely about it.It is an axiomatic belief that silence means consent, and, therefore, the decision to have a new register for the purposes of elections should not raise issues outside the meeting held’’.

According to PK Sarpong, the NDC seems to have forgotten that the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) is only an advisory body whose advice is not binding on the Electoral Commission.

‘’The NDC seems to have forgotten that IPAC is an advisory body and cannot dictate to the EC what it should do with its mandate. A decision to compile a new voters’ register rests solely with the Electoral Commission and not the political parties. It is puzzling why the NDC is vehemently opposed to the thoughts of a new voters’ register being compiled when all Ghanaians of voting age will be captured. Shadows of their past are haunting them’’ he added.
