Even before the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the New Juaben South Constituency goes to elect a Parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections, the members and delegates of the party in the constituency seem to have already settled on the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Michael Okyere Baafi, Popularly known as Kofi Baafi.
The constituents, BestNewsGH.com can report, say they are not oblivious of the impact the Free Zones Authority boss has made in the constituency over the years through various interventions and are confident his hardwork will be rewarded with an emphatic victory at the impending primaries.
They argue that he is a leader who has the attributes of uniting the constituency while ensuring its rapid development.
The constituents credit Mr. Baafi with revitalizing and rejuvenating the NPP in the entire New Juaben Area, its environs and the Eastern Region as a whole through the Social and Financial support programmes he initiated, including finding job placements for Members of the Party.
Another trait of Mr. Baafi which seems to have endeared him to the constituents is the fact that he helps those who are in need and does not discriminate against those perceived to be against him.
One of the Party delegates who spoke to this portal said “he doesn’t discriminate based on who is perceived to be for or against him, Baafi treats everyone with equal respect and value. I think it is a good thing. Among ourselves we discussed it. When we finish voting for him, Baafi must not change, it is a good trait he must keep up. If he sent you people to come and talk to us, tell him not to change.’’
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent visit to the Constituency, provided yet, a major proof that Kofi Baafi was very popular in the constituency, following the unyielding resolve of his supporters to massively win the primaries, win the seat as well as increase by a wide margin, the president’s votes in the 2020 elections.

A massive health walk at the instance of Kofi Baafi some 6 months ago heralded a moment in the life of the New Juaben South Constituency in which party leaders in the Region and the constituency, including the Regional Vice Chairman, Alhaji Omar Bondinga, David Prah, the Director of Communications and several others declared their support for him.
Alhaji Bodinga said to the supporters who had converged at the Koforidua Jackson Park that “We believe if Kofi Baafi becomes a candidate, the work we did in 2016 will be boosted and about 25,000 more votes will be added in the Eastern region.’’
Declaring his intention to run for the seat at the event, Kofi Baafi was explicit when he stated that he was bound to change the face of politics in the constituency.
He is hoping to achieve this through three cardinal pillars of education, job creation, and infrastructure development.
He assured that because politics is about development, if he is given the mandate to lead the constituency as its legislator, he will place premium on exploring opportunities as well as networks that will create economic opportunities for the overall benefit of the constituency.
