Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has argued that the NDC’s quest to win the 2020 elections is not merely to win power, but will constitute a “rescue mission” of Ghana from what he described as a “kakistocracy”.

Speaking on Pan African Television monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the former Minister of Youth and Sports decried the wanton corruption in the Akufo-Addo government, pledging that an NDC government will save Ghana from it, if it wins the 2020 general elections.

”The government is gradually becoming a kakistocracy…it is frightening and 2020 is not just an election, it is a rescue mission; we need to rescue this country from that kakistocracy…because the kinds of things that are happening they have never happened before in this country since Kwame Nkrumah,” he declared.

Mr Afriyie Ankrah then averred that even though the erstwhile Mahama government had issues of corruption to deal with, it is unlike what is happening under this current government notwithstanding the relative goodwill of the media towards it.

“How come that during NDC’s time, when one-tenth of those same things happened, NDC was described as corrupt? Now under the NPP, a thousand of those things are happening and they say they have to be proven? It’s incredible…it’s becoming like organized crime,” he emphasized.

There have been numerous allegations of corruption under the current government, but it has always defended its fight against corruption, stating that allegations are being investigated and any official found culpable will not be spared.
