General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has berated the opposition national Democratic Congress (NDC) for accusing the current chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa of ‘flirting’ with the ruling party.
According to him, the NDC has the penchant for opposing every chairperson of the Electoral Commission only when the party is in opposition, saying such traits doesn’t augur well for the country’s democracy.
Speaking on an Accra based radio station and monitored by BestNewsGH.com, Mr. Boadu said all the issues and allegations being raised against Mrs. Mensa by the NDC are mere fabrications and borne out of malice.
In his opinion, the time has come for the NDC and its assigns to back down on the vile campaign against the EC chairperson and rather cooperate to ensure a smooth, vibrant, effective and efficient commission that will deliver and prosecute its mandate to the satisfaction of the Ghanaian people.
‘’This is the same institution that has prosecuted elections in this country from day one. Out of all the EC chairpersons we have had in this country, it is only Jean Mensa that has been appointed by the NPP government. The rest were appointed by the NDC. So why are they worried? They have this penchant for attacking the EC anytime they are in opposition and that is not good at all’’ he said.
