The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has conferred what it says is an award for excellence in institutional destruction on president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said the party decided to confer the award on the president because of his penchant for dismissing heads of particular targeted institutions with the view to weakening and politicising them.

He said ‘’the president and his government’s plan is to weaken and destroy all institutions that are meant to promote good governance and perhaps take him on when he goes wrong. He is selecting them one after the other and compromising them and so he has received an award, excellence in institutional destruction’’.

General Mosquito as the NDC chief scribe is popularly known continued ‘’the president and the government have been lucky because there were some vacancies in the judiciary service for the appointment of some judges and he has filled those vacancies with his people. We are yet to see what their judgements will look like to assess if they will be compromised or not. He moved to the Electoral Commission too and relieved the top brass of their positions and sent them home, he extended the same to the Bank of Ghana and dismissed several top officials, he also took advantage of the Kwesi Nyantakyi issue to dissolve the GFA and sent the workers packing.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah mentioned the directive issued by the Ministry of Communications that sought to close down several radio stations across the country for various violations as another typical example of deliberate efforts by government to weaken institutions that propel good governance.
