Ruling New Patriotic Party firebrand, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has once again bemoaned the high import duties at the country’s ports, explaining that it has become a disincentive to the businessmen and importer in the country.

According to him, the trend has negatively impacted businesses and importers who are now importing far less than they used to.

Speaking on his Madina based private radio station Oman Fm in Acccra, Mr. Agyapong who is also the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region said a friend of his who imported some 150 containers of goods in 2017 was forced to reduce the number containers to as low as 20.

‘’With the basic economics that I know, I when the import duties are high like this the cost is automatically transferred to the ordinary Ghanaian. Because the businessman or the importer is in to make profit. We should watch this, as a party and government’’ he said.

According to him, government must look at resolving most of the challenges confronting the business community in 2019, particularly the high import duties in the ports.
