The Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, Freda Prempeh has called on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority in Parliament to apologise to the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan for tagging her as a bloody widow.

According to her, the stance of the Minority to boycott the swearing of Mama Lydia as the Ayawaso West Wuogon Member of Parliament is popularly known and also labeling her a bloody widow was completely out of place and an affront to all widows, female Members of Parliament and women politicians in general.

Speaking on Accra based Asempa Fm, Madam Freda Prempeh said the Minority must as matter of urgency apologise to the newly sworn-in MP or continue to stay out of parliament.

She said it disheartening that at a time when there is a clarion call globally for an increase in women representation in Parliament and politics in general, the NDC would unleash such a backward attitude against a woman who is still mourning her late husband, but has mustered the courage to lead her constituents.

‘’How can you label a woman who is still mourning her husband, a woman who has 5 little children to cater for and has mustered the confidence to stand in this election, won and is about to lead her people a bloody widow? This is just the lowest the Minority can go. It is not fair and it is not right at all. They must apologise’’ she added.
