Businessman and politician Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as chairman Wontumi has indicated that the existence of gold trading firm was a serious threat to the operations of banks in the country.

According to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region, many banks would have collapsed if the company had been allowed to continue its operations.

He said Ghanaians must appreciate the current government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for taking steps to protect banks in the country from the activities of the gold trading firm.

‘’People took their monies from the banks and deposited them with Menzgold because of the high returns they stood to make. But if you go back to the banks today they are in good business and things are returning to normalcy. All the issue having to do with Menzgold is the creation of the previous NDC government. They created this whole mess and that company would have collapsed all the banks in Ghana’’ he said.

He lampooned the opposition National Democratic Congress for politicizing the Menzgold issue, adding that government will do all it can to ensure that full force of law is let loose on anyone found wanting in the matter.
