Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has disagreed with an ex parte injunction granted National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker for Ningo Prampram, Hon. Sam Nartey George against a scheduled meeting by the Electoral Commission (EC)

According to Mr. Ampaw, the ex parte injunction which was granted by the Judge, Mr. Eugene Nyante Nyadu, last Friday was not in consonance with the law and therefore described it as “wrong and dangerous.”

“It creates an impression that the Judge did not feel comfortable with his ruling and in my legal opinion, the Judge was wrong to grant the interim injunction” Lawyer Maurice Ampaw observed in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

The public interest lawyer therefore explained, “When you give an interim injunction, it could create a situation where one’s right could even be abuse so you have to be very careful.”

“Not even the President could have stopped the EC from performing any of its functions because that would amount to gagging and with the controversy surrounding the voters’ register if the government had even dared to obstruct the EC in anyway such action would quickly been interpreted by especially the opposition as a deliberate attempt to prevent the 2020 election from coming on.”

It would be recalled that Sam Nartey George last week secured an interim injunction to stop the Electoral Commission (EC) from organizing its workshop to train officers at the Escape Hotel in Prampram ahead of the compilation of a new voters’ register.

The electoral management body of the country had served notice that it would have held a national planning meeting and key trainers training workshop to prepare and plan for the upcoming registration exercise.

The engagement was scheduled to take place at the City Escape Hotel at Prampram in the Greater Accra Region from April 24 to April 29, 2020.
