Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential aspirant, Alban Bagbin has indicated that he will not file his nomination to contest the flagbearership slot of the party if the National Executive Council (NEC) refuses to review the filing fees of 400 thousand Ghana cedis downwards.
‘’It is not that I cannot mobilise the money, but I am not going to encourage the wrong that is being perpetrated by the leadership of the party. They got it wrong’’ he said.
According the 2nd deputy speaker of parliament, the outrageous fees being foisted on them by the party leadership is taking the party out of its core principles, adding that he doesn’t want to be part of such a corrupted system.
Mr. Bagbin who was speaking in an interview with Accra based okay Fm, said he is one of the aspirants who have signed a petition and submitted to the party’s founder, former president Jerry John Rawlings to intervene in the matter by impressing upon the party leadership to review the filing fees downward.
‘’We believe the outrageous fees contravenes the way of life of the social democrats that we profess to be. And I will not be a part of it. Because as social democrats, humanity is our concern and if we begin to behave this way, it dents our image and values’’ he said.
