Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are ‘doing fine’ after being diagnosed with coronavirus. The Forrest Gump actor and his wife revealed they had tested positive for the condition while in Australia, and had decided to self-isolate.

And, giving fans a health update, son Chet insisted the pair, both 63, are ‘not worried’ about the illness. Sharing a video on Instagram, the 29-year-old began: ‘What’s up everyone? Yeah, it’s true. My parents got coronavirus. Crazy.

‘They’re both down in Australia right now because my dad was shooting a movie down there. I just got off the phone with them, they both are fine. ‘They’re not even that sick. They’re not worried about it. They’re not tripping but they’re going through the necessary health precautions obviously.’

‘But I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about,’ he continued. ‘I appreciate everyone’s concern and the well wishes but I think it’s all going to be alright but I appreciate it.

‘Everybody stay safe out there. Much love.’ Chet’s video comes after Tom confirmed the news of their coronavirus diagnosis on social media, sharing a snap of white latex gloves with fans. The couple, who have been married for 31 years, were in Australia where the Oscar winner was set to start filming for the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.

In a statement, the Cast Away star said: ‘Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. ‘To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive. ‘Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? ‘We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves! Hanx!’

Right on cue, fans and famous friends rushed to urge the couple to stay safe. Reese Witherspoon urged: ‘Please take care,’ as Jack Black simply posted: ‘Sending love.’ While Marlon Wayans found the humour in the situation, adding: ‘DAMN YOU TOM!!! You always gotta be first. First Emmy winner, first Oscar winner, first Hollywood Coronavirus. That one was mine damn it! ‘Curses. Get well soon brother. I love you tremendously. Praying for you and wifey. Always my nizzle.’
