Faithful Servants Awards, a project initiated in the United States of America to honour great police officers for their sacrifice in saving lives and ensuring peace in communities, is set to honour the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante-Apeatu.
The award ceremony, initiated by Bishop Kofi Adonteng Boateng, Founder of Divine Word International Ministry (DWIM) in the United States of America, will be in recognition of his efforts to foster and create an environment of honesty and integrity in the Ghana Police Service.
The overall objective of the project is to recognize the great work of the Police Service.
The event to be held in Ghana, is slated for the 16th and 17th of January 2019.
As part of the ceremony, a police officer who works with the Tesano Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), captured on video refusing a bribe from a driver while on duty, as well a journalist with the United Television (UTV) who made reports on the story, would also be honoured.
Speaking upon arrival at the VIP lounge of the Kotoka International Airport, Bishop Boateng reiterated that the honour would be to acknowledge the contributions of the personalities to the Ghana Police Service.
He said taking over the responsibility of guiding the Service to attain its constitutional mandate was undoubtedly an arduous task, noting however that, it remained a fact that the Ghana Police Service is blessed with some of the finest police officers that were not only intellectually gifted but professionally sound.
Bishop Boateng noted that the impact of the IGP’s professional competence is being felt in the Police Service, and therefore deserves to be commended.
On the issue of the police officer who rejected the bribe, he underscored the need to uphold integrity and also needed to be honoured.
Last year, the first edition of the ‘Faithful Servants Awards’ was held in October in Alexandria, Virginia (VA) in the United States of America, to honor the state police, sheriff’s department and the Fairfax police department in Virginia.
Its objectives are aimed at fostering an environment within which cops and the community could come together to work towards the overall safety and development of society, irrespective of religious differences.
On September 10, 2018, the Bishop became an international Police Chaplain in the United States having completed studies at CELA University International Police Chaplain Ministry in Miami, Florida.
As a result, his passion for community-police relationship development is very strong and this event will be one of many he intends to put together to foster that relationship.
