The Brong Ahafo regional Vice chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwame Baffoe has described himself as a monkey of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in response to individuals within the party who for the sake of attracting special favours usually use the cliché (I am Akufo-Addo’s person).
According to him, such people usually want to show they are more special and important than other party members.
‘’When I meet people like that and they tell me they are Akufo-Addo’s person, I tell them I am Akufo-Addo’s monkey. Because the fellow says that to make you feel less of a human being and I will not let them have their way. They must learn how to communicate and eschew this kind self-aggrandizing posture’’ he said on an Accra based local television station and monitored by BestNewsGH.com.
According to him, the phenomenon has become so pervasive in the NPP to the extent that it is used in the party’s internal elections saying ‘’ me, they have done it to me before. In our internal elections, they said ‘he is not Nana Addo’s person or preferred candidate and so don’t vote for him. That was the propaganda. Me I didn’t say anything. The message is that if I am not Nana Addo’s person and I am Nana Addo’s monkey, the delegates must assess who best fit the position. So when I go and the delegates ask me that they say I am not Nana Addo’s person, I tell them they shouldn’t mind them. If they are Nana Addo’s persons, then I am Nana Addo’s monkey’’.
He said that style of campaign has come to stay in the country’s politicking in which those contesting various positions in the political parties, identify bigwigs and people of good standing and ride on their good name and popularity by using their name or painting the picture as though they had the tacit endorsement and backing of such people to contest the election.
