Government has retained the Oboshie Sai Cofie led Board of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), quelling speculations about the resolution of the board, following the removal from office of John Dekyem Attafuah as Managing Director of the company.
A press release issued by the Chairperson of the Board, Oboshie Sai Cofie a while ago confirming the removal from office with immediate effect of the Managing Director of the company stated in part that ‘’the Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Yaw Kwakwa, has been put in place to act as the Managing Director to oversee the day to day management of the company. Also, Mr. Robert Sackey Tagoe, the Group Executive (Human Capital & Office Services) cum Secretary to GACL Board, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Aviation effective 18th January 2019. Ms. Amma Osafo-Mensah would act as the Group Executive (Human Capital & Office Services)’’.
The statement continued ‘’the current board, chaired by Madam Oboshie Sai Cofie, is still in place. We therefore wish to assure our stakeholders, especially our lenders that GACL remains committed to realizing its vision of positioning Ghana as the preferred aviation hub and leader in the airport business in West Africa”.
The Minister for Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda in a letter dated 16th January 2019 and addressed to the Board chairman directed the removal from office of Mr. Attafuah with immediate effect.
No reasons were assigned for the dismissal of the Managing Director, but information available to BestNewsGH.com indicate that it borders on allegations of sabotage of government policies and initiatives within the company.
