An eight-member delegation of Ghana National Council of Private Schools -GNACOPS has engaged officials of SSNIT in a close door meeting in Accra.

The meeting was held to officially inform the leadership of SSNIT about a newly introduced interventional policy called GNACOPS Volunteers Service Scheme (GVSS).

Through this initiative, young untrained teachers will be upgraded so that they will not be sidelined during the implementation of the private-schools lincensing policy which will soon be introduced by government.

At the meeting with SSNIT officials, the National Executive Director for the council, Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah explained to officials of SSNIT that the upcoming educational reforms, hence the licensing of private schools only permits professional teachers who have successfully secured their teaching license through the appropriate institutions to work within the teaching profession.

Considering the number of Ghanaians who have the passion to teach but are untrained, Enoch Gyetuah described the Scheme as a redemptive policy since untrained teachers will through it secure legal credentials to fit into the system.

Untrained teachers according to him will through the GVSS build up their career by using the premises of some of their member schools as a training field where they will attend refresher courses during vacation.

All the needed arrangements he disclosed have been done by the Council through the Ministry of Education.

He explained to SSNIT officials that, volunteers are not employees and for that matter need not to be covered as contributors to the SSNIT because they are under internship to upgrade their career status into the teaching profession.

At the meeting, documents covering the regulation of the scheme were given to officials of SNNIT to help them identify person’s enrolled.

In reponse to the briefing by executives of GNACOPS , Mr. Isaac Ohene- Gyang who is the Manager of Compliance Enforcement and Monitoring for SSNIT thanked the delegation and commended the council for coming out with what he described as a laudable intervention to save young Ghanaians in the teaching profession.

He topped up that SSNIT is there as partners in development and will make sure that people enjoy better condition of life when on retirement.

Mr. Isaac Ohene-Gyang assured the council that , SSNIT is committed to work with any institution or organization that seek the betterment of their workers.

He promised to collaborate with the council to ensure that all legal employees within the private Schools are covered.

He added that SSNIT officials will inform their various regional offices about the Scheme.

Some members of GNACOPS during the meeting expressed their dissatisfaction about the bad conduct of some staff of SSNIT in the various regions.

Officials of SSNIT appreciated the open expression and promised to amend such unfortunate behavior by bringing such workers to book.
