The Ghana Health Service (GHS) received 26 Nissan pickup trucks from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), on January 4 to support healthcare services delivery in the 3 northern regions.
The beneficiary districts include:

Bolgatanga Municipal
Builsa North
Builsa South
Bongo District
▪Upper West :
Sissala West
Wa East
Wa West
Jirapa
Daffiama Bussie Issa
Nadowli-Kaleo
Lambussie
Sissala East
▪Northern :
Mion District
Sawla/Tuna/Kalba District
Karaga District
Saboba District
Central Gonja District
Chereponi District
East Gonja District
Zabuzugu District
The Director General of GHS, Dr Anthony-Nsiah Asare revealed that with this support, all districts in the Upper West Region now have been fully covered with 1 district 1 pickup
“Ghana as you know is poised to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at primary health care level by 2020 ahead of the deadline of the 2030 through the support of partners and other stakeholders,” he added.
He also asked the Regional Directors to note that the vehicles are by no means personal vehicles for District Directors and as such under no circumstances should they be misapplied. Managers have been entreated to ensure good safety and regular maintenance of these vehicles.
The Director General assured that allocation letters of the vehicles will soon be sent to the managers, indicating the comprehensive insurance premium payable and the date for collection.
The GHS extended its heartfelt gratitude to JICA for these vehicles.
