The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday, August 8 2019, launched the Gh Dual Card.
The Gh Dual Card is an intiative of the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GhIPPS) and can function as an e-zwich and gh-link card simultaneously.
It makes moving funds seamlessly across the various payment platforms: mobile wallets, e-zwich wallets and bank accounts possible. This is the first of its kind in the world.
Vice president Bawumia during the launch said ‘’With the introduction of the GH Dual Card, coupled with the mobile money payments interoperability architecture, Ghana is well positioned to go cashless with payments for public services. Ghana is now leading in the digital payments field in Africa and we will continue on this trajectory with much more innovations in our digitization agenda’’.
He added that ‘’We are going to leverage on the GH Dual card to pay all public sector workers through the filter of e-zwich. Workers will have their monies paid to their bank accounts but through the ezwich filter. This will make it impossible to have ghost workers on the public sector payroll’’.
