The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will hold consultations with stakeholders as a means of enhancing transparency in its work.

Those penciled for the consultations include members of the clergy, Imams, traditional rulers, civil society organizations (CSOs) and former presidents, among others.

The novelty in the history of the commission is titled: “High Level Stakeholder Consultations by the Electoral Commission.”

Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, said in a press release that “it seeks to hear firsthand what the concerns and issues of key stakeholders are regarding the commission and its operations. Additionally, the engagements will provide the Electoral Commission the opportunity to inform stakeholders about its current activities and outlook for the future.”

“The programme is intended to demystify EC operations, among others, and bring the EC closer to the citizenry,” it added.

The leadership of the EC, led by Jean Mensa, has already met a number of media houses, including DAILY GUIDE, Graphic Communications Group and Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).

“Ultimately, it’s expected that at the end of these consultations, the commission would have not only opened its doors and operations, but would also have gained tremendously from the insights and experiences of stakeholders,” according to the release.
