Overstayed vehicles at the port of Tema have been auctioned to the general public by the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The auction, BestNewsGH.com can report, was organised at the Safe Bond and Atlas terminals simultaneously.

The move forms part of efforts to mop-up revenue in accordance with sections 93 (1) and 59 (2) of the Customs Act.

The Act mandates the customs division to carry out such exercises as and when they deem fit.

BestNewsGH.com can also report that hundreds thronged both terminals to bid for cars of their choice, and were required to make an upfront payment of 30 per cent of the cost of the car, and pay the rest within 14 days, or risk forfeiting it altogether.

The 30 per cent payment is however non-refundable.
