COVID-19: VP Bawumia extols KNUST and Incas for developing 15-20 minute Rapid Diagnostic Test

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has eulogized the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Incas Diagnostics for the breakthrough in developing a Rapid Diagnostic Test.

KNUST and Incas yesterday Monday April 27, 2020 announced the development and optimization of   Rapid   Diagnostic   Tests (RDT) for COVID-19 testing.

A statement under the hand of Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, University Relations Officer at KNUST read in part that ‘’ The development of the RDT is in line with two (2) of Ghana’s objectives in the fight against COVID-19; contain the spread of the virus, inspire the expansion of domestic capability and deepen self-reliance.’’

Commending the two institutions for their ingenuity, the Vice President pointed out the uniqueness of the Rapid Diagnostics Test which takes up to 15-20 minutes.

BestNewsGH.com reports Dr. Bawumia as positing that ‘’ Uniquely, this KNUST Incas RDT is able to detect asymptomatic cases and takes up to 15-20 minutes.’’

According to him, the move is a demonstration of the capabilities of local Ghanaian scientists to break barriers.

‘’This is a demonstration of the capabilities of local Ghanaian scientists to break barriers and we are grateful to them.’’ He further averred.
