The ruling New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Lawra in the Upper West Region and deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has paid a day’s working visit to the Black Volta at Dikpe in the Lawra Municipality to assess the level of the water at the site and to have firsthand information about the current situation there.
The visit was to afford the Member of Parliament and deputy minister the opportunity to prepare the grounds for the take-off of the construction of the bridge that will link Ghana and neighboring Burkina Faso.
Speaking in an interview with BestNewsGH.com from Lawra where Mr. Karbo has joined the chiefs and people of the area for the celebration of the 2018 edition of the Kobine Festival, the MP said the construction of the bridge will commence as soon as the water levels at the Black Volta subsides, explaining that the plan is to wait until the rains reduce.
He said the design works and all other relevant preparation towards the take-off of the construction of the bridge has been completed, adding that a contractor will soon be identified to undertake the project.
According to the Hon. Abayifaa Karbo, the construction of the Ghana-Burkina Faso Bridge is part of the Synohydro project and has been captured in the budget statement, adding that it is the passion of the current government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo to see to the construction of the bridge.
When completed, the bridge will not only facilitate the movement of people in an out of the two countries, but also enhance trade relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso and thereby improve the local economy of the area.
