The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority in Parliament has served notice that it will not be part of the State of the Nation Address to be delivered by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo tomorrow, Thursday, February 21 2019.

A statement signed by the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Asawase, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak said the decision to boycott the event is in solidarity with their colleague Sam George who was assaulted during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on the 31st of January 2019.

‘’This decision has been taken as a result of the failure of the Akufo-Addo Government to arrest and prosecute the state-sponsored goons who assaulted Samuel Nertey George during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election’’ the statement read in part.

It further stated that ‘’the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram was unjustly treated by thugs associated with the ruling New Patriotic Party, and since that incident occurred, no concrete steps have been taken to bring the perpetrators to book. We, therefore, wish to state that we are boycotting this event in solidarity with our colleague MP, Sam George’’.
