Legal Practitioner and Politician, Mr. Sulley Sambian has described the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Mobile App which was launched by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in February this year as a life saver.

Lawyer Sambian who is also Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the North East Region has been explaining how he quickly bought electricity power online while working at around 1 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

Detailing his experience on his Facebook Page and sighted by BestNewsGH.com, lawyer Sambian said he was working deep into the night when his power went off because he had run out of credit.

Stranded and not knowing the next line of action, he recalled the recent launch of the ECG Power App by the Vice president, which offered Ghanaians the opportunity to buy power online.

He quickly downloaded the App and tried purchasing some credit.

His attempt to purchase the credit online was successful, offering him the leeway to continue with his work.

An elated lawyer Sambian wrote:

‘’My lights went off at 1 a.m. because I ran out of credit. I  was wondering how I could get credit around 1 a. m. then I remembered the vice president recently launched an app which offered a platform to buy credit online. I downloaded the app then decided to just try buying credit with 20 Cedis because I wasn’t sure about the system (being a first time user). Now I have light. Find below. At least I can continue with my work. Legal fees earned, the work must be done.’’

On February 18, 2020, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia launched the ECG Mobile Power App which has been designed to make the purchase of electricity credit and the payment of bills more convenient for customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The App makes it possible for 2.8 million out of the company’s 3.8 million customers to make payments for power purchased and services rendered by the Company. This figure is expected to rise by the end of the year when old meters are replaced with smart ones.

“This is historic in the sense that the ECG for the first time in its long history is employing technology to tackle two major problems: first, improve on one of its critical functions of delivering power to its customers; and, second, address the more serious challenge of mobilizing its revenues from power delivery effectively and efficiently. With this new application, customers can now buy electricity credit from the comfort of their homes, anytime and anywhere. What is more, you can now buy credit for distressed family members and for acquaintances.’’ The Vice President said during the launch.
