Leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allottey Jacobs has said in as much as many people in the country may disagree with founder of the NDC and former president Jerry John Rawlings, the truth remains that he was the one that launched the country into the path of democracy.

The former Central regional chairman of the NDC said Rawlings also assured and ensured that the country remained stable and secure without military interference all these years, arguing that he has his weaknesses but must not be condemned out rightly.

‘’You might crucify Rawlings, but Rawlings has sown a seed and nobody can take it away from him because he said that was going to be the last coup d’état in the country, that there will never be any coup in this country and true to his word, when he migrated from a military leader to a civilian president, it has never happened in the history of the country.’’ he said.

According to him, what happened to the country in the past in terms of military interventions and take-overs did not happen to Ghana alone, but all other countries along the coast of Africa.

‘’In every country’s history, there is supposed to be a revolution. Loo k at what happened in Cote ‘d’voire, I don’t believe that country would want to go on the tangent of civil war ever again. And look at what is geminating in Togo, it will get to a point and there will be a revolution in Togo and that system will change. We are lucky, we have had three coups but we are now for the better’’ he said.

According to him, Ghana is now tapping into her natural resources which at the end of the day would tremendously help the country and make her prosper.

‘’ Look at Nigeria, where they have oil but when you are looking for the poorest people in Africa, that is where they are. Just compare Nigeria to Ghana and you will see that it is absolutely different. So we are developing a process where we need patience, don’t let us look back, we should head forward and create prosperity for the country’’ he added.
