Former Kumasi Mayor under Rawlings, Akwasi Agyemang dead

The death is reported of Mr. Akwasi Agyemang, the longest serving Mayor of Kumasi, under former president Jerry John Rawlings.

BestNewsGH.com sources report that the loudmouth former City Council president died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital at the age of 86.

He was said to have been on admission at the facility’s intensive care unit, where he was receiving treatment for a yet-to-be disclosed ailment.

Family sources say they are yet to make the death of the late former mayor public.

This portal is told his passing has shocked residents of Kumasi who are still trying to come to terms with his demise.

As a member of the Royal Family, Nana Akwasi Agyemang or Okumkom as he was popularly was known served as Kumasi Mayor for over a decade and stepped down to contest for the Golden Stool (Asantehene).

He is fondly referred to, as the man who cracked the whip on traders who flouted the by-laws of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly during his tenure as Mayor.
