Former Minister for Communications in the John Mahama era, Edward Omane Boamah has labeled the occupant of the Golden stool, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as a liar.
His premise for labeling the revered king a liar emanate from the Asantehene’s comments at the United Nations General Assembly during which he asserted that his Palace was instrumental in impressing upon former president John Mahama to concede defeat in the 2016 elections.
The issue has become a topical one and has generated a lot of heat, with various commentaries from sections of the Ghanaian public.
Mr. Omane Boamah took to his Twitter handle and and posted ‘’Big Men too can lie! Oh Ghana!’’
He followed it up with another tweet saying ‘’Ahead of election 2020 expect more lies against John Mahama. #Bigmencanlie.’’
Earlier on, the former Chief of Staff in the John Mahama regime, Julius Debrah on the same issue, issued a statement seeking to debunk the Asantehene’s comments.
“I state without equivocation that the decision to concede and congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo even before the official results were declared was taken by President Mahama himself without any persuasion from any quarter. On the day President Mahama willingly conceded defeat, he met with then-Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah- Arthur, NDC Chairman Kofi Portuphy, General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia, together with some high ranking members of the party and informed them of his decision to call and congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo.’’ Mr. Debrah said in his statement.
But the General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has taken Mr. Debrah to the cleaners describing his statement as bogus and trash.
Also, some groups from Asanteman have given the former president and his assigns 48 hours to apologise to the revered traditional ruler or face their wrath.
It remains to be seen how far Mr. Omane Boamah intends to go with is #Bigmencanlie campaign.
