The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has entreated residents and voters in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency to go out in their numbers and vote for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.
According to him, in as much as the government under president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is doing very well in terms of managing the economy, that alone cannot be a basis for the party to retain the seat.
What is most important according to him, is for the electorate to go out in their numbers and vote massively for the NPP candidate to retain the seat which has been in the grips of the NPP since 1992.
‘’It is indeed true that the Akufo-Addo led government is doing very well in terms of managing the economy but we must not be complacent because that alone cannot win us the election. We must go out in our numbers and massively vote for our candidate’’ he told Accra based okay Fm and monitored by BestNewsGH.com
There are concerns that today Thursday January 31, being an official working day, turn out for the by-election will be low.
This is also heightened by the general perception that by-elections do not usually attract high voter turn outs.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election has been occasioned by the death of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the constituency, Emanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko who passed on a few week ago in the United States of America where he was undergoing treatment at a health facility for an ailment.
His widow, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has been elected by the NPP to contest the seat on its ticket.
Mama Lydia as she is popularly known has been tipped by political watchers to retain the seat which has been in the grips of the NPP since the return to multi-party democracy in 1992.
