WHAT IS THE MANDATE OF MSDI?

The Ministry is mandated to provide oversight and strategic policy direction for the implementation of IPEP across the 3 Development Zones.

WHAT IS IPEP?

IPEP is a NEW DEVELOPMENT APPROACH designed to help accelerate the eradication of poverty and inequalities manifesting itself in the country.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Under IPEP, each of the 275 constituencies have been allocated the cedi equivalent of US$1 million this year, to be invested in infrastructure development.

WHO IMPLEMENTS THE IPEP?

The main agencies for IPEP implementation are the Northern Development Authority (NDA), Middle Belt Development Authority (MDA), and Coastal Development Authority (CDA).

HOW WERE THE NEEDS OF THE CONSTITUENCIES IDENTIFIED?

The Ministry constituted a 10-member Regional Teams mainly to carry out infrastructure needs of every constituency.

The assessment helped the Ministry identify priority projects, in addition to Government priority projects to be implemented in each constituency.

WHY TOILETS?

It forms part of IPEP’s Sanitation for All programme, which aims at increasing access to good sanitation in the rural and deprived communities.

WHY WATER?

It forms part of IPEP’s Water for All programmes, which seeks to increase access to water in rural and deprived communities.

WHY WAREHOUSE?

It forms part of agriculture component of IPEP’s “One District, One Warehouse” aimed at reducing post-harvest losses among small holder farmers.

WHY DAMS/DUGOUTS?

It forms part of IPEP’s “One Village, One Dam” initiative in the 3 Northern Regions which seeks to provide all-year availability of water in communities in the northern regions.

ANCILLARY FACILITIES

  1. Two (2) Standpipes with four (4) taps/Sprouts.
  2. Solar-Powered Submersible Pumps.
  3. 10,000 Litres Water Tank.
  4. Fence.

We are NOT constructing JUST A TOILET but SOPHISTICATED 10-SEATER INSTITUTIONAL TOILETS

TOILETS and ANCILLARY FACILITIES

  1. Two (2) Disability friendly Units.
  2. Solar Powered Mechanized Boreholes.
  3. 5,000 Litres Water Storage Tank.
  4. Bio- Digester Water Storage.
  5. Disposal Avenue.

ARE THESE PROJECTS IMPORTANT? KNOW THESE FACTS

  1. Fewer than 2 out of every 5 Ghanaians drink SAFE WATER.
  2. Two (2) out of every 5 schools are without TOILETS.
  3. Three (3) of every 5 schools are without WATER supplies.

Additional facts

  1. The provision of water and toilets facilities are key in eradicating poverty and inequalities.
  2. The provision of these facilities is aimed at meeting SDG 6; Ensuring the Availability and Sustainability of Water and Sanitation for All by 2030.
