Gratitude is said to be the heart’s memory. Without gratitude in our hearts as believers, our hearts would ache. Whenever the memories of gratitude fades, the feeling of deprivation, depression, pain, hurt and vengeance surge forward unimpeded.

In fact, amnesia is a fertile breeding ground for sadness. Without gratitude, one is resigned to the feeling of isolation. I know many people with “mood swings”, a vast majority of them (believers) are occupied by negative moods and unbelieve. When you allow yourself to be weighed down by unbelieve, negativity and sadness; preoccupied by envy, seized by anger, controlled by unforgiveness and afflicted by guilt, you shut the door to gratitude. You become so self absorbed by your distress that, you get stuck and stagnant. You become seemingly imprisoned, so much so that you are unaware of many invitations to be grateful.

“Finally, my brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable; if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things”. ( Philippians 4:8 NIV).

Dear reader, “gratitude serves as a helpful antidote to countering negativity and discord. Make a conscious effort to keep your heart and mind on the little opportunities that come your way and amplify them; “MAGNIFY” your opportunities and blessings, and minimise your loses. In our “desert” moments, we tend to grumble, instead of remembering where God took us from in the first place. A whole community grumbled against God, instead of showing gratitude. They said; “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There, we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you (Moses) brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death”. (Exodus 16:1-3). They have all too soon forgotten, that they were slaves, beaten and mistreated. They had no liberty, and had no freedom. This is how many people respond to God’s grace and favour. They respond ungratefully; they murmur, complain and criticise God. Even after God provided bread, they still complained of NO meat. This is the kind of attitude God refers to as “stiff-necked.

Stop comparing your past to the present, and begin to show gratitude for what God is doing and what He intends to do. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel, as long as God is in the lead.

Stay blessed always and remember to love someone and mean it.
