The ruling New Patriotic Party in the Western North Region have bemoaned what it says is the profligacy and violence that characterized the just ended Parliamentary primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A statement issued by the NPP Western North Communications Directorate condemned what it says is the clear show of money not only in the region, but across the country.
The NPP argues that the NDC primaries was characterized not only by acts of monecracy, but acts of vigilantism and lawlessness as well.
‘In Akontombra for example, a day to elections, the eventual winner Issah Mumuni was attacked on his way from Dadieso by gun wielding hoodlums after he had gone to withdraw a whooping sum of GHC 200,000 from the bank. According to his own account, that was the money he was going to use to support his election; in other words, going to be shared to influence delegates on grounds’’. the statement read in part.
The statement continued that ‘’ In Wiawso, former 3 term MP and Regional minister was re-elected. His fellow aspirants alleged that he bought delegates with GHS 400 each. The story wasn’t different in Aowin where the former DCE also won by giving GHS 500 to each delegate’’.

PROFLIGACY AND VIOLENCE IN THE JUST ENDED NDC PARLIAMENTARY PRIMARIES IN WESTERN NORTH REGION
On 24th August 2019, the National Democratic Congress went to to the polls elect their parliamentary candidates ahead of 2020 general elections. The election provided an opportunity for the NDC to present better alternatives, cure the problem of monitization in their party, cure tribalism and prove their change of brand as a violent party.
Predictably, the opposition NDC did nothing new. The NDC Regional Executives deprived their own delegates in Juaboso, Bia East and Bodi from making a choice by imposing the incompetent siting MPs on them. This was done through disqualification and intimidation of potential Challengers of these MPs.
In constituencies where the elections were held, it was characterized with acts of vigilantism, profligacy and plutocracy (monecracy).
In Akontombra for example, a day to elections, the eventual winner Issah Mumuni was attacked on his way from Dadieso by gun wielding hoodlums after he had gone to withdraw a whooping sum of GHC 200,000 from the bank. According to his own account, that was the money he was going to use to support his election; in other words, going to be shared to influence delegates on grounds.
In Wiawso, former 3 term MP and Regional minister was re-elected. His fellow aspirants alleged that he bought delegates with GHS 400 each. The story wasn’t different in Aowin where the former DCE also won by giving GHS 500 to each delegate.
It is therefore not surprising that Ras Mubarak, Victoria Hammer and some other contestants took to their Facebook walls to complain about the plutocratic nature of the NDC elections.
What baffles our mind is the consistent complain of hardship by the NDC when actually a candidate can give over 900 delegates GHS 400 or GHS 500 each.
Is that not the same party(NDC) that keeps complaining of “hardship” in Ghana? Or is it artificially created to cover their loot and to subtly instigate Ghanaians against the responsible and forward looking NPP government?
We are also aware that, Sefwi Akontombra, Suaman, Aowin parliamentary primaries were also laced with senseless acts of tribalism and violence apart from the vote buying.
However, this comes to us as no surprise because the NDC, we are told by candidate Mahama, has a history when it comes to visiting mayhem and unleashing attacks on innocent souls.
The Western North though votes for the NDC in general elections has nothing to show for despite the longevity of the NDC in government since the inception of the 1992 constitution.
The NPP has 3 out of 9 constituencies in the region. And these three ironically happens to be the most developed or are experiencing rapid development or transformation.
It is no news that places where NDC keeps dominating have always been neglected as far as development is concern. This is something we do not wish for Western North.
We encourage all Ghanaians most especially those in Western North to condemn this violence and plutocracy exhibited opposition NDC in the western north region.
We need individuals who can
advocate and lobby for the growth of the Region but not a pack of power hungry and incompetent souls who only wish to occupy those seats for their own selfishness.
We encourage all Western North people to join the president in developing the Region and Ghana as a whole.
Say No to violence, Say No to Plutocracy, Say No to the NDC.
