We will not tolerate any more laxity from you-Coalition of Concerned Nurses and Midwives to Nursing and Midwifery Council

The Collation of Concerned Nurses and Midwives (CCNM) have warned that it will not take any further laxity from the Nursing and Midwifery Council, saying the council has taken them for granted for a very long time now.

According to the coalition, it beats their imagination that in the 21st century, a professional body like the Nursing and Midwifery Council cannot facilitate the checking of results of trainee nurse online, adding that the old and obsolete way of traveling several hundreds of kilometers to their various schools to check their results is appalling and distasteful.

The group’s all comes in the wake of an accident recently that resulted in the loss of two trainee nurses who were traveling to  check their Licensing Examination results released by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The group says they are at a loss as to why Junior High School students can easily access their results online and same cannot be said about the trainee nurses.

‘’First and foremost, one cannot fathom why in this twenty first century where even JHS candidates can check their BECE results online, a professional council like the NMC has no such means. Therefore, trainees would have to travel hundreds of kilometres from wherever they are to their various training institutions when NMC Licensing Examination results are released. Interestingly, this very Council is piloting a system which will make trainees write their Licensing Examinations online’’ the coalition said in a statement issued a while ago and signed by its convener Solomon Tettey and  Public Relations Officer Jon Felix.

THE NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL (NMC) MUST CARE FOR THOSE WHO LISTEN TO EVEN A DYING CLIENT

The Collation of Concerned Nurses and Midwives is saddened by the untimely death of  two trainee nurses who lost their lives in a motor accident as they were going to check their Licensing Examination results released by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in this hard time as we take steps to champion some changes within the Nursing and Midwifery field to prevent such incidents from occurring again.

First and foremost, one cannot fathom why in this twenty first century where even JHS candidates can check their BECE results online, a professional council like the NMC has no such means. Therefore, trainees would have to travel hundreds of kilometres from wherever they are to their various training institutions when NMC Licensing Examination results are released.

Interestingly, this very Council is piloting a system which will make trainees write their Licensing Examinations online.

Mustn’t a system that will allow trainees to check their results online much a priority than an online examination?

The Collation of Concerned Nurses and Midwives is also worried about the fact that trainees who have in one way or the other been referred in any of the courses in Licensing Examination cannot do a private registration unless such student return to his/her school for registration. This is more worrying knowing the various Health Profession Bodies which are under the same regulatory Act, Act 857, with the NMC treat their whole Licensing Examination as an individual affair where it’s the individual that goes online to register himself/herself for the examination.

What is the reason that could not allow nurses and midwives to do same?

As if going through this stress and inconveniences are not enough, nurses and midwives would again have to go to their various institutions just to endorse their logbooks before submission to the Council after rotation.

The excessive authority of these training institutions has made most of them abusing trainees financially as trainees have no option to dodge these financial demands by the institutions.

It’s as though the NMC does not want to listen to these complaints that come to their front desk almost everyday.

We are by this release calling on all well meaning Ghanaians to join us to put enough pressure on the NMC to rectify this system that makes nursing and midwifery more stressful than what our job description is about.

Nurses and midwives deserve a listening ears from the NMC the same way we are expected to listen to even a dying client.

Long Live Nurses and Midwives!

Long Live Collation of Concerned Nurses and Midwives!

Thank you.

Signed
