The National Peace Council has assured the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it stands ready at any time to mediate in meetings between political parties, aimed at ending the menace of political vigilantism in the country.
The assurance comes on the back of the call by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to meet with the leadership of the NDC to iron out ways of disbanding the various vigilante groups affiliated to the two parties.
The NDC replied to the president’s call in a letter and copied to the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, impressing upon the president to allow the Council to mediate such a meeting.
In response to the NDC’s letter, the National Peace Council said the call for it to mediate in the meeting fall within its mandate and is willing to lead the charge to deal with the issue.
