Two Youth Groups in the Upper West Region are up against each other over the Regional Director of Health, Dr. Osei Kuffuor Afreh.
Whereas the Coalition of Concerned Citizens of Upper West are against the Regional Director and blaming him for what they say is the dwindling fortunes of the healthcare system in the region, the Upper West in our Hearts Group on the other hand is in favour of Dr. Afreh, arguing that he cannot be blamed for any negatives registered in the Region in terms of healthcare delivery.
An earlier statement issued by the Coalition of Concerned Citizens of Upper West read in part that ‘’ When Dr. Osei Kuffour Afreh assumed the reigns as the Regional Director of Health Service these gains started fizzling out. The current trends in the region have rather taken a nosedive. The parochial interest, immaturity, arrogance and amateur leadership styles of the Regional Director of Health Service can largely account for the current developments.’’
But the Upper West in our Hearts Group has called the bluff of their counterparts from the other side, accusing them of resorting to divide and rule tactics and tearing the region apart in what they say is ‘’this critical moment in the life of the average, vulnerable Upper West Citizen.’’
A statement signed by the group’s secretary Abu Issah and its Public Relations Officer Mahama Abass and in the possession of BestNewsGH.com read in part that ‘’Dr Afreh as we all know is a professional who is guided by ethics and a code of conduct. He is not a law unto himself and although he is the Regional Director of Health Services, he is answerable to several structural arrangements established by the command structure within the Ghana Health Service. What has been the complaints or queries from these structures on the so-called allegations made against Dr Afreh by the group? Where did they obtain their so-called facts and evidence from?’’
