UWR: Police hierarchy introduces new ways of fighting crime in the Region

The Deputy Upper West Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP) Peter Ndekugri has stated that in spite of the fact that the numerical strength of the regional police service in the region has reduced following some changes in the affairs of the Regional Command, they were more than poised to combat crime in the region.

He said new ways of dealing with crime, coupled with commitment and resilience of the police in the region will ensure that criminal activities are brought down to the barest minimum under his leadership.

ACP  Peter  Ndekugri made the pronouncements during a radio discussion programme on Wa based Radio Progress and monitored by Bestnewsgh.com

He said the Wa municipality has a settlement population of 102.445 within a 579.86 square metre land area and that majority of the inhabitants own a motorbike.

According to him, the ownership of the motor bikes has significantly contributed to crime wave in the region as criminals usually resort to the use motorbikes with pillion riders to perpetuate their nefarious activities.

BestNewsGH.com reports ACP Ndekugri as saying since criminals have devised more mischievous ways of conducting their operations in recent times, the police service has also introduced more intelligent and sophisticated ways of fighting crime and handling miscreants in the region, especially in the regional capital, Wa which serves as a transportation hub.

He hinted about the introduction of motorbike patrols considering the nature of housing and streets in the region.

He added that with the assistance of the Regional Coordinating Council, the Upper West Region is relatively peaceful without any security threats.

Since his arrival in the region he added that the courts have become busy because his men are breaking grounds and bringing all manner of criminals to face the full rigours of the law.
