About 85 shops have been razed down by the fire that has gutted the Odawna Market near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Secretary to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Taskforce that operates within the area Richard Mensah falling short of telling the extent and cost of damage as a result of the fire, said other items including vegetables and cloths have also been destroyed in the fire.
According to him, the Odawna Market hosts more than two thousand (2000) shops and that some of the traders use Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and other sources of fire to cook in the market.
He said they were expecting more fire tenders to arrive at the scene, adding that the fire is about 60 percent under control.
