The Chamber of Freight Forwarders, Ghana has described the UNIPASS single window project as a unique one that will help enhance and improve trade facilitation in the country.

Speaking on ‘Point of View’ on Accra based Citi TV, and monitored by BestNewsGH.com, President of the Chamber, Dennis Amfo Sefa averred that just like they protested the coming into being of the Ghana Community Network Services (GCNet) and WestBlue, which eventually proved helpful to the nation, in the same vein will UNIPASS surmount all the teething challenges it is currently experiencing.

BestNewsGH.com reports him as saying GCNet and WestBlue during their implementation experienced various setbacks which were fine-tuned and eventually proved helpful to the nation’s trade facilitation efforts.

Mr. Sefa who submitted documents to prove that the new system was effectively and efficiently running, posited that it was imperative to allow it time to get on an even keel and become stable.

He posited that “We resisted GcNET. We resisted West Blue but today we are saying GcNET and WestBlue are okay. So with time, we will get there. You will see that in two, three or four years time, we will come back here and say that UNIPASS is the best.”

Mr. Sefa continued that “We were all over the place. We did not understand why the government wanted to change the system that we had (at the time GcNET) because it was perfect and it was working. We were also complaining that we had not been trained.”

He described as normal, the resistance the new system is meeting from the freight forwarding fraternity, explaining that it takes time for such new initiatives to be accepted.

Together with its local partners, Ghana Link Network Services, UNIPASS International Agency (CUPIA) of Korea Customs Services have been mandate by government to take over the implementation of the National Single Window programme for enhanced trade facilitation.

The company is rolling out the system with close collaboration from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
