The University of Education Winneba (UEW) is expected to reopen today, April 9 2019 for academic work to resume immediately.
Central Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Committee, Kwamena Duncan confirmed the reopening of the University on Accra based Peace Fm.
According to him, enough security measures have been instituted to allow for smooth academic work on campus and that lectures are expected to begin in earnest today.
The Minister warned that any student who exhibits traits of misbehavior would be punished severely, adding that all actors in the University community are expected to live in peace and work together for the advancement of the institution.
UEW was shut down on 14 March 2019 after students’ protest turned violent leading to widespread damage of school property estimated at about GHc 250,000.
The aggrieved students were protesting the dismissal of three of their lecturers by the Vice-Chancellor Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni.
