Tony Elumelu’s United Bank for Africa (UBA) has added some 4, 000 new employees to its staff strength as of December 2019.
BestNewsGH.com can also confirm that over 5, 000 staff of the Bank have been promoted to new grades with effect from January 2020, following the transformation of the Bank’s grading system and processes, while salaries have been increased by a whopping 170%.
The 16 level grading system has been reduced to 12 levels from entry to the top of the pyramid, an indication that it is now easier for staff to attain top level management positions as they progress in their careers.
BestNewsGH.com sources report Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Kennedy Uzoka, as saying the new grading system makes it possible for a fresh graduate in the employment of the Bank to rise to the position of Group Managing Director (GMD) by the time he or she attains the age of 36.
Mr. Uzoka who spoke to the staff in a bank-wide live broadcast said, “As a leading financial institution, we do not take issues relating to our staff lightly.’’
He added that ‘‘we have also taken steps to ensure that our bank remains at the top tier as it relates to talent pool. We want to train the best and we have crashed the grade structure to make it easier and faster for our employees to progress along their careers. With this new grade structure, it will be possible for a new graduate employed at UBA to rapidly chart their own careers and become GMD by the age of 36.”
With a global customer base of more than 17 Million, UBA has more than 20, 000 staff and remains the highest employer among Nigerian Banks.
