Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has admonished the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to endeavor to sell its good works to the generality of the Ghanaian people in order for them to retain the party in power.

According to the former president the party will also have to work hard to ensure victory in the 2020 general elections.

Mr. Kufuor who was speaking at the NPP’s National Annual Conference a while ago observed that it was imperative for the party and government officials to respect the Ghanaian people and the power they have entrusted to them.

‘’Those of you who have had the privilege to be in leadership positions should carry the Ghanaian people with you by actions that demonstrate that you respect them and the mandate they have given you, through selflessness, humility, and respect for the rule of law, and demonstration that you are accountable to them. The least you can do to lose the trust of the people is to take them for granted. If the people perceive such an inclination on your part, no matter what good you do for them, they will be willing to forego them.’’ He said.

The former president continued that ‘’ Our present government under the able leadership of President Nana Addo is doing very well, but we have got to tell our story. If we do not trumpet our achievements, and they are many, no one will tell them for us. We have had bitter lessons in the past to learn from on this score, and we should not let history repeat itself. We are called upon to have a missionary zeal in the work of governance, and at the same time spread the good news of the New Patriotic Party government pragmatically transforming the nation with humility as missionaries do. If we are able to do this, Ghanaians, I believe, will continue to reward us with multiple successive mandates.’’
