The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rubbished reports of a media publication with a gory picture of a man alleged to be the Suame Constituency Chairman of the party Saeed Umar, who was butchered in an altercation yesterday, Monday, February 11, 2019.

A statement released by the party’s regional secretary, Kwame Zu, stated in part that ‘’ we find these publications and accompanying images exaggerative and untrue. We state to allay the fears of the public that the alleged ‘butchered’ and ‘bedridden’ Suame Constituency Chairman is hale and hearty’’.

According to the NDC, the circulation of carefully selected horrific images has been done to deliberately equalize violence and thuggery that has become a hallmark of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

‘’We are however appalled by the deliberate circulation of carefully chosen horrific images to conveniently place the NDC and the NPP on the same level of thuggery and violence. Nevertheless, we admit that there was a family altercation on Monday February 11, 2019 at a joint meeting of Suame and Tafo constituency members in Kumasi. The Regional Executive Committee has since taken steps to resolve the matter’’ the statement added.

The statement concluded by saying ‘’we urge the media to be circumspect and report facts devoid of unhealthy embellishments moving on’’.
