Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said the termination of the concession agreement with Power Distribution Services (PDS) won’t affect Ghana’s relations with the United States of America (USA).
His comment follows an alert raised by Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee, Dr Steve Manteaw.
“Already the relationship between the two countries is not at its best. One thing that the US abhors is a country that stands up to its authority. That is exactly what Ghana is doing -calling the bluff of the US and that will not augur well for Ghana,” he said.
But, the Information Minister on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme, Thursday said there is no cause for alarm.
He explained that, the issues did not border on what he termed “crisis of confidence between America and Ghana”, adding that “it has been a difference in opinion.”
The Information Minister said the Electricity Company of Ghana remains in possession of assets, while PDS had been assisting it with some limited services in the period prior to the termination.
Mr Oppong-Nkrumah assured Ghana and USA would continue to work together on other development cooperation projects.
