New Voters’ Register: NDC finally agrees to register

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is feverishly preparing for the upcoming compilation of the new voters register by the Electoral Commission.

The exercise has been slated to begin on the 18th of April 2020, but has met stiff opposition from the NDC and some other minority political parties.

But in what seems to be a sudden u-turn on the matter, the National Communications officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi has intimated that the Party will be ready for the exercise even though they believe the Electoral Commission will fail.

Speaking on Peace Fm’s morning show, Kokrokoo and monitored by BestNewsGH.com, Mr. Gyamfi opined that “As a party, we are already preparing for the exercise…we will be ready but they (EC) will fail

The NDC National Communications officer who is one of the leaders of a series of demonstrations against the compilation of the new voter’s register said “We are already prepared…because by law the EC needs to conduct a limited registration exercise. So as a party we are already preparing for that exercise. If the EC says there will be no limited registration but rather wants to compile a new register, we will be ready but they will fail…”

In a related development, the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has emphatically stated that the intended compilation of the new voters’ register will not come off.

While addressing a recent press conference on the subject, Mr. Asiedu Nketia pointed out that:
“If you doubt us that will be the first exposure about the lies they have been telling the nation. You are now in the process of procurement, we are in March so between today and 18th April you have to bring samples or prototype of your equipment to go and do pilot registration, train everybody before you come and start the registration. Unless they want to create confusion they will not even be in a position to begin the registration on the 18th. We don’t believe they can, so the issue about what we’ll be doing on the 18th does not arise at all,
