Defeated assembly member aspirant for the Adukrom Nima Electoral Area of the Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti region, Ibrahim Adabor Issah, a.k.a Hon. Aponkye has blamed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of masterminding his humiliating defeat yesterday, Mynewsgh.com reports.

According to him, the leadership of the party had called on him to step aside for their preferred candidate to sail through but he refused, because it was the third time they would have him rescind his decision to contest without being compensated.

“They have cheated me totally; they have brutally robbed me. I was at number one but now they have brought me to number zero because of poor management; poor organization from the NDC party, because I was their member but since 2012, I have left the party”, he said in an interview on Adom FM monitored by Mynewsgh.com Wednesday morning.

He accused the party of bribing the Electoral Commission’s Presiding Officer at the Adukrom  Nima Electoral Area, one Mr Osei to rig the election in favour of the NDC’s preferred candidate, “and I have video evidence to that effect”, he said.

Hon Aponkye who took to the streets to jubilate after results of one polling station had been announced, believed the elections were rigged in favour of the winner and will contest them at the highest court of the land.

Speaking after the declaration, the aspirant told press men that he was at a loss as to why he never emerged victorious despite provisional results that put him in a comfortable lead.

“I will go to the Supreme Court because I do not understand why I never won the elections. I suspect the polls were rigged”, he said.

The winner, Hon Abdul Rashid obtained 1056 votes, followed by Hon Maxwell, who received 770 votes.   Hon.  Iddrisu came third with 486 while the loquacious Aponkye came last with his 234 votes.
