Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ningo/Prampram constituency, Sam Gyata George has asked aspirants of the party’s presidential candidate position who are grumbling and complaining about the high filing fees they have been asked to pay to count themselves lucky.

According to him, he was part of the National Executive Committee (NEC) that took the decision, adding that the initial amount that was proposed was 1 million Ghana Cedis and that they had to review it downwards to the current 420 thousand Ghana Cedis.

Mr. Gyata George opined that the amount is justified in the sense that the cost of the primaries alone is something the party is grappling with.

He said they are looking at catering for some 320 thousand delegates, printing materials and paying the electoral commission 3 thousand Ghana Cedis per constituency to supervise the elections at the constituency level.

In his estimation, the candidates must do all they can to raise the money and pay the fees to enable the party have a successful flagbearer election.
