Ghana’s leading Mobile Telecommunications giant, MTN has donated cash and various items towards the celebration of the 2019 edition of the Sanzule Kudum Festival of the chiefs and people of Sanzule in the Western Region.
The items include cash, airtime and drinks among others.
In his remarks during the presentation ceremony, the acting Senior Manager for the South West Business District of MTN, Mr. David Woase averred that ‘’ As an African Multinational, the management of MTN Ghana deem it appropriate to support our African culture and heritage through the celebration of Traditional festivals. Festivals project a lot about the African society and are considered an integral part of the African culture. We identify with this heritage and in view of this, we come in each year to support with cash and kind donation to make the festival memorable for the indigenes and revellers.’’
According to him, the company in addition to the donation will also support the durbar during the festival with canopies with a view to helping make the occasion a grand one.
On the theme for the Festival which is , ‘Our environment and sanitation, Key to prosperity’, Mr. Woase opined that ‘’It is of no doubt that the environment and its sanitation which are key elements in improving the socio-economic status of the Sanzule community. An improved environment would improve the health of the people, it will creates jobs, new business opportunities, and strengthen local economies’’.
Mr. Woase added that the company was tapping into the Year of Return introduced by government and will endeavor to help make it a memorable one through supporting festivals.
‘’Additionally, this year has been declared the Year of Return by the Government and some activities have been organized to include our traditional festivals. As a good corporate citizen with its roots from Africa, we find it prudent to support the activities that will make the year of Return a memorable one. Aside the Sanzule Festival we will support over 40 traditional festivals across the country.’’ he said.
The Chief of Sanzule, Okatakyie Asafo Boakye ll on his part thanked MTN for the kind gesture and for initiating the move to support the Sanzule Kundum Festival.
He was hopeful that the relationship between MTN and the chiefs and people of Sanzule will last forever and will yield mutual benefits to both sides.
Present to support the chief to receive the donation was the Queen mother of the area, Obaahema Akua Dehyee as well as elders and Planning Committee members of the Sanzule Kundum Festival.
