President John Dramani Mahama says his focus is on fulfilling the mandate given to him by Ghanaians, insisting he is committed to delivering on his campaign promises rather than entertaining speculation about a third presidential term.

The President has dismissed speculation about a possible third term in office, saying his priority is to honour the mandate entrusted to him by Ghanaians.

Speaking during his ‘Resetting Ghana Tour’ in the Volta Region on July 17, Mahama said he constantly reminds his ministers that their time in office is limited and must be used to deliver meaningful results.

“The people of Ghana gave me a mandate for one term, and I am working hard to meet the promises I made to them,” he said.

Mahama disclosed that he frequently urges members of his Cabinet to remain focused on implementing the government’s programmes.

“I always tell my ministers, let’s number our days so that we can work harder to meet the promises we made to the Ghanaian people,” he stated.

His comments come amid renewed speculation that he would seek a third term in office.

Addressing the constitutional debate, Mahama said he believes the relevant provision of the Constitution is clear but acknowledged that citizens have the right to seek an interpretation from the courts if they wish.

“I’ve read it over several times. It’s exactly what it says. But if they want to ask the Supreme Court, that is their business,” he said.

The President reiterated that he was elected to serve one additional term and remains committed to fulfilling the trust reposed in him by the electorate.

“I know that the people of Ghana gave me one additional term, and I’m going to work to meet the trust that they put in me,” he added.
