Veteran Ghanaian actress and television personality Grace Omaboe, also known as Maame Dokono has recounted how she became a subject of sexual harassment by lecturers while pursuing her tertiary education.

She revealed that almost all male lecturers she came across in the course of her study wanted to get her laid in return of grades but she stood her ground and ensured that she never fell for their schemes.

Speaking on a local radio station in Accra monitored by MyNewsGh.com, she urged female students who are victims of sexual harassment not to give into the demands of their lecturers as it could haunt them in the future.

“I was also a victim of sexual harassment in my university days but I was lucky not to have given in to the demands of sexual predators”, the 73-year-old revealed.

Madam Grace Omaboe urged institutions to put up structures in the country’s universities to guard students against being preyed on by lustful lecturers in return for grades.

Her comments were in reaction to an exposé by BBC Africa Eye in which two lecturers from the University of Ghana, Legon have implicated in the sexual harassment.

In the documentary which has since been premiered, Prof. Ransford Gyampo and Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor allegedly making sexual advances to ‘students’ who were actually undercover investigators, according to the statement, are expected to face the University’s Anti-sexual harassment committee probing the scandal.

Business and Executive Committee of the University of Ghana has interdicted both lecturers a decision that has been welcome by Professor Gyampo who insists he did nothing wrong.
