The National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye otherwise known as Nana B has assured agitated and aggrieved students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) that government is taking steps to address their challenges with the school Authorities and that the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso will definitely be sanctioned.

He urged the student to remain calm and trust in the measures government is instituting to get the rumpus addressed.

Students of the University have been up in arms against Authorities of the school over some newly introduced policies which they deem unfriendly.

They are also protesting against the decision by the Vice Chancellor and the authorities to turn the all-male Katanga Hall into a mixed hall.

Things however got to a crescendo when one of their colleagues was brutalized by the campus security resulting in the victim losing his memory, culminating in the issuance of a statement by the student leadership about a demonstration today, and a boycott of lectures.

The aftermath of the demonstration has been catastrophic with the high handed manner in which the school authorities handled the situation resulting in damage to public property, injury to students and the detention of some students as well.

This has sparked public condemnation and outrage about the issue with various stakeholders voicing their opposition to the poor handling of the matter by the school authorities.

Reacting to the incident, the NPP National Youth Organiser who is himself an alumnus of the school assured in the strongest terms yet, that the Vice Chancellor will soon be ‘history’.

“I am very confident that Prof Obiri-Danso will soon be history. Very very soon,” he posted

Meanwhile the Ministry of Education in a statement has urged calm and assured that the sector Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh will be in the school tomorrow, 23rd October 2018 at 10 am to meet all the parties in the matter in order to find a solution.
