The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana has expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family of late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Mr. Rawlings, 73, passed on yesterday, Thursday November 12, at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
A statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Association, Samson Asaki Awingobit expressed shock and grief at the passing of the former President who is also the Founder of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The statement said Mr. Rawlings’ contribution to the development of the Maritime and Port sector cannot be overemphasized.
‘’President Rawlings will be remembered for his astuteness and commitment to democratic governance in Ghana and on the continent. May his soul rest in peace. ‘’ The statement read in part.
The statement continued that ‘’On behalf of the Association, I the Executive Secretary express my deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family, and the people of Ghana, and state with a strong conviction that, the first president of the fourth republic was a great charismatic figure, who shaped Ghana and brought stability to the nation.’’
